Armenia has its own unique Easter celebrations and traditions. Easter is one of the brightest holidays of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is a moveable feast, the day of the celebration is not fixed and each year it is different. The feast of the holiday is always celebrated from 22 March to 26 April (35 days).

Easter is also known as Surb Zatik. Remembering the resurrection of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have victory over sin.
Visiting church, funny games, colorful eggs, bread, greens and all the goodies make Armenian Easter very enjoyable.
Another interesting tradition is coloring of eggs. Easter eggs are dyed red using the traditional method of immersing them in an infusion of red onion skins – representing the blood of Christ. A favorite egg-tapping game is played by children and adults alike. You hold a hard-boiled egg upright, the other person holds their egg upright, and you tap their egg. If you crack the other person’s eggshell first without breaking your own, you win and get their egg. You keep doing this until the person with the most eggs wins. All the children play this game.

Armenians cook rice with raisins where rice is the symbol of the humanity, and raisins represent all Christians.

The easter table also includes Armenian fish Ishkhan and red wine, which symbolize the flesh and blood of Christ.

The most popular bread for Easter is Chorek. It is a sweet bread. It’s especially loved by kids. Chorek is a rather sweet and puff bread, that’s why it’s not an everyday dish, but is made once a year, during Easter.

Easter in England
People in England usually go to church on Easter. Easter eggs are important in Britain, too. They are a symbol of rebirth in most cultures. People decorate them with different colours using special techniques. Children believe that the Easter Rabbit hides the eggs in the garden. A traditional food is Roast lamb for dinner on Easter Day.

PALMS
The week of Easter begins on Palm Sunday. Why Palm Sunday? So, when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem on what is now known as Palm Sunday, people welcomed him with palm branches carpeting the streets and waving them.

EASTER EGGS

Easter eggs are a very old tradition going to a time before Christianity. Eggs after all are a symbol of spring and new life.
Exchanging and eating Easter eggs is a popular custom in many countries. In the UK before they were replaced by chocolate Easter eggs real eggs were used, in most cases, chicken eggs. The eggs were hard-boiled and dyed in various colors and patterns. The traditionally bright colours represented spring and light.
In many places people play this game. They hold an egg in the palm of the hand and bang against the opponent’s egg. The loser is the one whose egg breaks first.
Nowadays people give each other Easter eggs made of chocolate, usually hollow and filled with sweets.
THE EASTER BUNNY

Rabbits have always been a symbol of Easter
In the UK children believe that if they are good the «Easter Bunny » will leave (chocolate) eggs for them.
HOT CROSS BUNS

Hot cross buns, now eaten throughout the Easter season, were first baked in England to be served on Good Friday. They are small and there is a cross on them.
Easter is usually in April or May. It is a religious holiday. It celebrates the rebirth of Jesus. At Easter, many people like painting eggs in bright colours.

This story is very old. It is not true, but many children like it. A husband and a wife had no children and they were very sad. There were many nice flowers in their garden, and one day they found a little boy in one flower. He was as small as a man’s thumb. They called him Tom Thumb.
Tom’s mother was very happy. She made nice clothes for her boy. He had a green coat and yellow trousers. On his head he had a yellow hat. His mother made little boots for him. Tom liked his clothes. But he wanted a sword and a shield. He wanted to be a soldier. Mother gave him a needle for a sword and a button for a shield.
